For 22 years Tonya has provided instruction and instructional leadership in all subject areas for teachers in elementary through high school. As the Coordinator for K-12 Mathematics, she provide direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the district's mathematics program. Tonya oversees the development of a balanced curriculum, ensures the effective implementation of evidence-based practices, provides instruments for measuring performance and informing practices, organizes professional learning experiences, writes improvement plans, collaborates with teachers, leaders, and external stakeholders and much more. As the creator and founder of the I'm W.O.K.E. Project, a structured approach for preparing teachers to engage students in the use of mathematical modeling to advocate for self and community, Tonya has spent years leading teams of educators to develop culturally relevant curriculum that creates learning environments intent on Widening Options through Knowledge and Empowerment; making math matter for every student every day. She has been honored to serve as a member of the executive team in the Georgia Council of Supervisors of Mathematics and to speak at local, national, and international conferences such as the Model Schools Conference, The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, The Georgia Council of Teachers Of Mathematics, and the International Critical Thinking Conference.
