Undergrad, my debut album, tells the story of my struggle with depression and anxiety while trying to finish college and further my music career. This album will allow you to see through the eyes of a 19-20 year old struggling to keep faith and Focus. I almost failed out of college, I went through a breakup, I was struggling with with self esteem, feeling stagnant in my career and, at times, it felt like Way Too Much. The one thing that kept me grounded and sane was my ability to take what I was going through and put it into my music. To further emphasize that my music is a reflection of my life and who I am, I retired the name Surreal and now go my my birth name, Whayne. Now, I'm sharing my story and my music with the world.
Whayne is a musician who creates music that reflects the human experience. He writes, produces, plays, performs, and engineers his own music. Whayne's introspective, emotional, and lyrical style is similar to that of J Cole and Joyner Lucas without any of the profanity. His music is his journal and he's putting it all out for the world to see.
When I was in seventh grade, my niece DeaShaun was born. After battling trisomy 18 and a hole in her heart, she died at six weeks old. Writing was the only way I knew how to cope with the pain. Eventually I developed the stage name Surreal and released my first EP titled "DeaShaun" dedicated to her.
